Purpose & Goal: To assist a financially-deserving woman business owner to further her education in order to enhance her skills and knowledge base in order to better manage her business.

Eligibility Requirement: The scholarship is open to any woman business owner in Wake County, North Carolina who has successfully operated a business for a minimum of one year, who has a need to further her education.

Scholarship Value: $2,000

Number of Awards: One

Guidelines: The WBON Scholarship Application must be submitted by the close of business on Monday, April 23, 2018. Successful applicants will be notified prior to the award date of Wednesday, May 10, 2017. WBON respectfully asks that the winners be present at the May meeting on May 10 to claim their award. The amount received from the scholarship will be held in our account. Invoices must be submitted to WBON for payment and will be paid promptly. Scholarship funds must be used exclusively for educational purposes to include classes, seminars, books, CD's, training used to enhance your business as described in your application. Expenses for travel, technology, meal and staff support can't be accepted. Funds must be spent within 24 months (May 9, 2020).

Application Requirements:

1.  An essay not to exceed 500 words including the following:

  1. A description of your type of business, your market segment and your business' potential for success.
  2. Elaborate on your current skills and/or knowledge for operating a business and the specific additional skills and/or knowledge you need to acquire in order to be more successful.
  3. Elaborate on how attaining the needed skills or knowledge will enhance the potential for your business to grow in the next 2 years.
  4. Explain your short-term (6-12 mo.), median (12-18 mo.) and long-term (18-24 mo.) business goals and elaborate on the steps/plans you envision taking to attain the goals.

2.  Three (3) written personal references from individuals not related to you
